Flyscreen Heavy Duty Doors

Watch the Flyscreen Queen film showing a heavy duty door in action

The heavy duty doors need just a touch more DIY input as you can cut the UPVC top rail to precisely fit the doorway and it can either be screwed to the door frame or attached with hook and loop tape which needs to be purchased separately.

Heavy duty fly screen material The flyscreen material (here belonging to the blue door) sticks to the self adhesive tape on the UVPC rail. Each panel is overlapped and then the finishing strip is clipped on top.

Charcoal/Grey door screens are slightly different because each panel has a runner fitted to it which slots into the UPVC rail so that they can slide apart.

Flyscreen brackets These are the brackets screwed to a door frame.
Rail clipped to brackets The UVPC rail clips onto the brackets.
Charcoal flyscreen door Here is a Charcoal Flyscreen Door fitted and brackets have not been used. Instead of screwing into the windows, hook and loop tape has been used, see below.

The weights are attached to each panel and they snap together and come in two designs.

Flyscreen fitting diagrams

Fitting a heavy duty flyscreen can be done in 9 easy stages.

A. Measure the doorway.
B. Cut the UPVC rail to size.
C. Screw brackets to door frame, or use hook and loop tape which you can buy separately. (see picture)
D. Snap the plastic weights together over the material on each of the four lengths.
E. Clip one half of the UPVC strip to the brackets or against the hook and loop tape. Remove adhesive cover.
F. Now stick the material on the UPVC strip so that the weights just touch the floor, overlapping one at a time.
G. Cut the excess material off.
H. Sandwich the material together with the remaining half of the UPVC strip.
I. Finally slide on the finishing pieces to each end.

FAQ

What is the difference between the Budget Charcoal Door and the more expensive Charcoal/Butterfly/Blue/Charcoal-Grey Heavy Duty Doors?
The budget screen has pre fitted weights which are lighter than the more expensive one and the material is more like plain netting, whereas the more expensive one is heavier polyester type. Also the plastic is a tad lighter. However, fitting the budget screen is just that bit easier.

My door opening is larger than 95cm can I get extra panels of material?
I'm afraid that we do not sell the strips separately so you would need to buy two as they can be mounted together. The alternative is to make your own door cover with the bespoke material which cuts very cleanly with sharp scissors or a knife. It is 1.2m wide and we can cut it into metre lengths at £4.99 a metre. However you would have to work out how to fit it to the door frame and possibly weight it at the bottom. We are happy to send you a sample.

Can I leave the heavy duty doors outside?
No problem especially the heavy duty ones as they are made of UPVC and the curtain material is glass fibre and are very durable and easily cleaned. The Budget door material is softer polyester/cotton and more likely to degrade although it is UV resistant. In the UK climate though we would not leave outside in winter. It comes with brackets so that you can simply unclip it if required and store away.

How do heavy duty flyscreens fit?
The door can be adjusted to fit up to a maximum of 95cm wide, the budget doors will fit a gap of 100cm. The UPVC strip can be cut to fit and how closely you overlap the strips is up to you. There are some explanatory pictures on our website (flyscreens in detail) which shows the heavy duty flyscreens in more detail.

Why choose a Charcoal Door?
The UPVC rail is white, the weights at the bottom are black and there are two black end pieces at the end of the rail. The mesh is only available in grey/Charcoal, but the advantage is that this is easier to see through.

How do I attach the weights at the bottom of the door screens?
To attach the weight we would recommend that although you can snap them together with your hands you can also use pliers. First wrap a cloth or rag around the weight and you will hear it snap together. Do this along the length of the weight.

What’s the difference between the heavy duty blue curtain and the more expensive charcoal one?
The only difference between the curtains is the colour. The blue ones are all blue and as it is an end of range item it has been reduced in price.

What about Cats?
You could get one of our Medium weight/Summer doors which has a UPVC strip at the top plus Velcro at the sides and just two pieces of material that overlap(making it much harder for moggie to get through), but you would need to clip these together and at the bottom put lots of books or a plank of wood. There is plenty of material with each piece measuring 75cm wide by 220cm long.

Can Dogs deal with them?
Yes, but only the heavy duty, they may drag the lightweight ones down and find it more difficult to get through the overlap, the summer doors are much stronger though.
