A fly curtain is a screen that hangs over a doorway to keep flies and insects out while still letting you walk straight through. There are three main kinds: a magnetic mesh curtain (two mesh panels that snap shut behind you on magnets), a PVC strip curtain (overlapping clear plastic strips you push through), and a chain curtain (hanging aluminium chains, often used in commercial kitchens). All three let people and pets pass freely while blocking insects.

For a back door, patio or french door used as the main route to the garden, a magnetic mesh curtain is usually the best choice - it seals itself shut, looks neat and you can see through it. A PVC strip curtain is the budget option and fits any doorway in minutes. A chain curtain suits commercial kitchens, garages and outbuildings where a tougher, wipe-clean barrier is wanted.

Yes. A magnetic mesh curtain closes completely behind you so there is no gap for insects. PVC strip curtains overlap so the strips fall back together after you walk through. Chain curtains break up the doorway and deter flying insects from entering, which is why they are common in food premises. They are the same idea - "fly curtain" usually means the walk-through hanging kind (mesh, strip or chain), while "fly screen" is the broader term that also covers framed and panel screens. If you want something you simply walk through with no frame, a fly curtain is what you are after.
